Unbelievable and insipid

It is a romance novel clearly following a formula - sizzling attraction, a certain number of steamy sex scenes, some conflict, and then the inevitable happily ever after.

A larger-than-life hero who is perfect in all respects - he’s a doctor, an awesome cook, totally hot and sexy with a Greek-God body, is sensitive to a woman’s feelings/needs, and open and honest about his feelings without any ego-hassles. The only apparent negative is he’s a neat-freak, and hoovers in patterns (a negative that’s really a positive!). There are many things mentioned in the passing that don’t really tie in with the main story - such as the hero and his brothers running a white-water rafting company on the side (along with being a full-time practicing surgeon?!).

The hero’s family is full of strong opinionated personalities, all of them interfere in strange, hard-to-understand ways with each others’ lives resulting in contrived situations and conversations.

The reason for the heroine playing hard-to-get is based on an incident from her youth which is not written convincingly. Her relationship with her parents are mentioned but very wishy-washy, not adding anything to the story. Also her deep but platonic friendship with another guy from her college seems to develop into the conflicting love-interest but peters out gently.

There are a lot of hints about building romances around the rest of the characters - for the author’s future novels.

Outrageously unbelievable like James Bond - I can suspend reality and enjoy. But this was just unbelievable and insipid.

On the positive side, the language of the book was pleasant, a quick and easy read with many hot scenes.

I might read another book by the same author if I borrowed it, but I would not buy again.
