Beluga Whale
A game I played with Akash (now 5 yrs old) last night at dinner:
One person thinks of an animal/fish/bird/reptile, and the other guesses – like 20 questions.
So here’s how one round went:
Ak: “I’ve thought of something”
After questions like “Is it a bird?” etc. We arrived at a large sea creature – then I started guessing the specific one:
“Killer whale?”
“No”
“Blue whale?”
“No”
“Orca?”
“No mama, Orca is a killer whale – you already guessed that!”
Oops! Since when did my little son know “Orca”?!
“Grey whale?”
“No”
“Hump backed whale?”
“No – it’s smaller than a humm-bak whale”
“Umm… I can’t recall any other types of whale…”
“It starts with a ‘b’ sound, mama!”
“BELUGA whale!!”
Ak, proud of his mother: “Yess! You got it!!”
(At this point I am not sure who is prouder of whom :-D)
Turns out they are doing under water creatures in class these days – and we will have an open day at the end of it to showcase their learnings.
The teacher I must say, is very good. She casually introduces environmental-awareness, and a lot of stuff about the natural world. I like her.
wow…my knowledge of sea creatures has increased now, for the first time, i've heard Orca and Beluga Whale!
